Description

One night was given to me in July, at least one night, that was nice! Used it to check my setup, focuser and back focus distance. Found out that I assumed that the M48 extender was as long as my M42 was, assumed wrong! 5 mm longer, which at least explains the bad stars at the edges, which are clearly visible. Ordered and received already the correct length extenders, definitely have to praise Agena Astro. I do not think that I ever did not find what I was looking for, and the delivery was always super fast. So if you are on the look for an adapter, stop by there first (and no ... I am not paid by them 😊).
To determine the correct back focus I thought the area around the Cocoon would be the best, and to say it like in a very famous sitcom: can there BE any more stars? Perfect to check the edges, guaranteed stars present.
I am actually super impressed about the result, did not have really a long integration time, and most of it was spent on the Lum (which was anyway my goal), just get a bit of color (ok, that was not quite enough) and combine with the Lum. For Bortle 6.5 and broad band I did not expect anything like that. The raw data were already fairly good (always a gradient in the image from the light pollution, but nothing that DBE and Gradient Exterminator cannot handle), and that in the middle of the summer heat, wow! PI came up with around 65000 stars, have to check if my previous Sh2-91 beat this value, if not, well ... the most stars in any of my images then!
So now I am looking forward to the next chance of a clear sky, does not look like it in the near term, but Fall is close, can't wait.
Btw., I can only recommend to go to Full Resolution with that image (not the left edge please ... LOLOL), on my big monitor it looks awesome, if I may say 😊😊😊.

Description: After I had my first image done I realized that I do need to apply noise reduction mechanisms on the 3 RGB channels as well, just gave an overall smoother image. I also used only histogram stretch (no arcsinh as in the original version) since the color was just overpowering the image.
